Research Interests

As a medical student with a technical background, my interests lie in the translation of technical innovations to clinical practice. A particularly exciting field is using Artificial Intelligence for clinical decision support. As the amount of data collected in the clinical process grows, from radiologic scans, to laboratory results, genomic data and wearable data, combined with the ever growing availability of treatment options (especially in cancer care), making a personalized treatment decision tailored to a patient is becoming more and more challenging. My hunch is that computers will play an important role in aiding the physicians and patients with these complex decisions in the foreseeable future, by predicting harms and benefits from different treatment options. I want to help bring this future closer as it will increase the effectiveness of medical decisions, reducing unnecessary diagnostic procedures, treatment side-effects and costs.
