I have been always interested in the broad intersection between technology and medicine, and therefore I studied biomedical engineering in the National Polytechnic Institute in Mexico City. In 2007, I received a Royal Dutch Shell Scholarship from the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in The Netherlands, to study a two year master program in Biomedical Engineering. This master provided me with a broader view of the technological developments employed to solve biological problems and strengthened my interest in computational modeling and medical imaging.
I performed my master thesis at the Maastro Clinic, in Maastricht, The Netherlands, attracted by a pioneering paper of Eran Segal on Radiogenomics. This initial work set the basis for my PhD, also at the Maastro Clinic and the Maastricht University, where I worked on the pioneering steps on the use of imaging parameters to predict outcome in lung cancer patients, work that led to multi-centric nationwide and international scientific collaborations.
In the fall of 2013, I joined Dr. Aerts Lab at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School, as a research fellow on quantitative imaging and computational genomics. My research interests include medical imaging, decision support systems, computational biology and bioinformatics. I enjoy reading (contemporary novels mainly), art cinema, playing drums and soccer and whenever I can going to the sea.
