Research Interests
As director of the Computational Imaging and Bioinformatics Laboratory (CIBL) at Harvard-DFCI, we develop and apply advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) approaches to various types of medical data. In specific, our research is focused on the integration and analysis of medical imaging, pathology, and genomic data for personalized medicine. To achieve this goal, we have a broad expertise in engineering and data science technologies, as well as medicine and biology.
As a PhD student in The Netherlands, I worked for four years on the extraction and analysis of medical imaging data. Afterwards, I worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard School of Public Health in bioinformatics and genomic analysis. My current research brings these two expertise areas together, by applying data science approaches to several medical imaging data types.
Furthermore, we are PI-members of the Quantitative Imaging Network (U01) and Informatics Technology for Cancer Research (U24) initiatives of the NIH. Using several personal and project grants in both the US and EU, we laid the groundwork for the proposed research by developing radiomics methodologies, such as developing large number of feature algorithms applicable to medical imaging data and building non-invasive prognostic biomarkers.
